Pond for snappers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The whole perimeter of the pond except for where the stream comes in is loaded with tall plants, the only ones I recognized were Cats tails for lack of a scientific name.

I figured there would be a bit of "food chaining" going on.

Reptiles magazine just put out a good article on how to build good ponds, you should dig around on their website and try to find it or just order a copy of the latest issue.

If I were you though, I would stock it with natives and just let them be- no need for additions, some will leave, some may come and if you get enough you may see babies.

Natives is the way I am going to go. I don't see a need to add any odd balls that may end up in some ones else pond or local water ways.

After I get some more time to check out the pond I am goiing to try to figure out what is already there and add some more things ( driftwood, hides, plants, etc) to make them a little happier.

I have a pond... I made it back when hurricane emily hit texas... No Fish, No turtles, NOTHING!, so I started to catch fish from the river to stock my pond... the river I have is about 100 feet from my pond... so Stocking was easy. and Turtles found there way all by themselves.. I guess they found there way when they would come to land to lay eggs and they found my pond... now I can see at least 5 turtles at a time on any day. So I know there are more...

Dude. I want that pond you're getting. Knowing me, I would stock it with arapaimas and stuff.. LOL Maybe it would be possible to have heaters that are anchored to the bottom, that are rigged up to float in the middle of the water column..? They'd have to be some high powered heaters, and a bunch of them, but I'd probably try it.. :P But natives sound cool too.
