Pond liner + viewing window?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm curious as well using a pond liner and either glass or acrylic as a viewing window. I'm not keen on the drilling through the acrylic though.

Say you have the wood notched out for the window to sit snuggly in. The question is the pond liner. How do you deal with that? Does it go into the grooves first and squeeze the window frame in? How is it sealed?

I know there are builds with this kind of setup but having difficulty working the search feature.

I dont understand the apprehension about drilling through the acrylic? I just finish a sump and drilled hundreds of holes through acrylic. Granted it was only 1/4" thick but thicker acrylic would be a little harder to drill through but less likely to crack during the process. As far as the other question, I would increase the notch for the window to sit in so there is room for the liner. The pressure from the acrylic to the liner will give you the seal, it creates a gasket. Thats why the screws are needed to draw the acrylic into the liner.

Could you use dow 795? i think that was what NOLAPete was going to do until he decided to use the liquid rubber. I am wanting to use pond liner and a viewing window cause i want a pond that can go inside or out.. and move with me when its time to move.

dow 795

should not be used:
In below-grade applications
On surfaces that are continuously
immersed in water
