I got with the 45mm, even though I think you'd be fine with the 26mm. Since you're keeping cats in it. Those sharp spines aren't something to be trusted.
You should make sure it is EPDM. The firestone liner is EPDM and 45 mil. It is patchable if punctured. The vinyl and abs line can not be patched properly. The EPDM is the same material used to make the tire inner tubes. It is very flexible but heavy to move around. As long as you don't have direct sun light on the liner you will not have a problem with it drying out.
