Pond Temp in Socal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only keep cold water fish in my outside pond. I've tried putting tropicals out there but even in the mild temps it will not survive. Just not practical to heat or insulate the pond. I like to enjoy fish keeping and not slave over it. Only fooling ones self if doing so means your a die hard keeper or the fish will be okay. Dead fish tell no lie.

i see. i live in ksa. in summer the water temps are perfect but in winter they drop significantly.so i add more water and cover it. covering it really helps. increases water temp by 3 to 4 degrees. you could the same

I see said the blind man. 😄

Here's a pic of the koi pond I maintain a block from me. Fish colors will change a little due to temp change. Temp in this pond is actually a little too warm due to the shallowness.

Water temp has dropped to 55deg. Elopichthys are still eating with vigor.
