Pond water counter experience (or?)

Thanks Muske and Balrock043 for your advices.
What is not clear for me; incase I arrange a spawn, in the spawning tank, do you mean that I have to put a male into the same tank, to fertilise the eggs? If so; how shall I know which male is ready for this, or any? And next, when I put this male into the tank, after the female eggs are laid, will the male not eat the eggs?

Usually the male must be at least 25 cm (about 10 inches) to be at the maturity level for spawning. if you do arrange a spawning, after the deed is done and the female has been impregnated, IMMEDIATELY remove the male, and do the same for the female once the eggs have been laid, and leave the eggs in the separate tank... you should begin culling (removing unwanted or inadequate fish fry) at around 4 weeks after they hatch.

Dear balrock043,
What I understand from your post, with MY English, the eggs are fertilised by the male, when they are in the female. Not after the eggs have been laid?

If so, when I see a last minute female, just before spawming and I take her into the seperate tank, I do not need any more to put a male also into the tank?

Or, you mean I have to keep a possible future mother with a mature male in a separate tank, days before and wait the fertilisation to happen in the tank. But then, how I will understand that the fertilisation took place?

Sorry for asking on and on but this time I want to be ready for the next time.

As far as I have noticed, last year happened 4 spawnings in the pond naturally, because I got (only) abt 5 new fish where 4 of them have different size classifications.

Ok ive read all of this and just say oh yeah babay im gonna try this 1 out myself 1 day, im in the uk its harly ever hot nearly allways raining our summers are crap at the least and only last a few wks.

Great job on what your doing though m8 sounds very interesting and has my mind ticking to the thought it is possible after all ;)

Hi bigcol; Considering the weather at UK, I believe you have more chance than me. It has been 8 months all ok but I wonder the rest 4 warm months. But even 8 months is something. Since some days my pond water is brown due to the pot and soil changes of the w.lilies, still can see down 75-80 cms but the earth is settling slowly and will be better. Wish had some more rains now a days but unfortunately no. Rains help much and you have good enough over there.

yes. the eggs are fertilized inside the female... if the female is mature enough to spawn, and you want to control the spawning, you can place her in the tank, and place a suitable male. you can tell that the female is pregnant by squeezing her belly a little.. it will be VERY soft, and some of the males sperm may come out. there will be a noticeable difference in her size.. her belly will look a lot larger than before. you can keep her in the separate tank until she lays the eggs, or let her lay them in the pond, and transfer them over to the tank. but DO NOT leave ANY fish with them in the tank.. they WILL eat the eggs, and wait about 2 months before transferring fish fry to your pond, because koi WILL eat other, smaller fish.

regarding your plants, when you're koi get larger, they WILL start to eat the plants, and they will attempt to burrow in the soil. i dont suggest having floating lillies, and if you have potted plants, put rocks on top of the soil to keep the fish from digging in it

HI TUGO ,koi are never impregnated the female will lay her eggs then they are fertilized by the male , they are fish ,so sorry for the misinformation !!! just GOOGLE KOI BREEDING

oops.. sorry bout that.. the male pushes the female against the wall only to push the eggs out of her.. sorry for the confusion..

be careful when spawning.. the eggs will stick to ANYTHING
