very nice.. cant wait to see updates.. one more question. here in the states we have alot of predators ranging from racoons, cats, all the way to birds like osprey, cranes, and in some states eagles.. do you have any predators that u worry with on ur side o the globe? and how do u protect against them if so?

It's Australia, the only animals here are predators ;) Seriously though, all the usual bird suspects incl kingfishers and kookaburras as well as water rats. Only kingfishers and kookaburras can access the fish due to the fence, water rats keep to the shallow "bait" pond under the waterfall in the corner of the yard. Fine mesh toad fence around the pool helps discourage the rats too but the fish are getting too big to be worried by much anyway.

FF seem to do a good job with algae, usually turn the filter on for a few hours a day, water movement seems to help as well. Will see how things go in the height of summer, hopefully the fresh flushes from all the rain will keep things in check, otherwise I might employ an algaecide. Not wooried about staining as the pool needed to be repainted and retiled anyway, this saved me that hassle for the time being. When I want to sell the place I will redo the pool then.

I would run the filter 100% of the time. Most algaecides to treat that volume of water will also wipe out the disolved oxygen levels. You can also look into UV or ozone injection to control it. The down side is, no matter what you go with, you'll always need some good old hand scrubbing.

Don't want to spend all my $$$ on electricity bills :) Am looking into UV, have used a dye that knocked the suspended algae out of the water and then used the pool vac to clean up. Didn't worry the plants, fish or shrimp so seems to be a good option and gives the pool a nice limestone spring look. Not worried about algae on the walls though.
