Where did you get the black media blasting sand? What exactly is it made of and how long have you been using it?

I like it because there's different grain sizes and it makes different layers and it looks cool. My fish love it for burrowing and digging and it's deep enough to where I really don't have to worry about them doing anything to the rocks and what not

I use silica sand in my tanks, it's a pure white fine sand that requires very little rinsing, bought it at a place that sells swimming pools. Really cheap too, $5 for 75lb bag

I have the black diamond also. I found it on the forum here. I bought it at tractor supply for nothing compared to the othere sands out there. You have to really really rinse it out but looks great. It comes in different sizes. I believe the bigger the better. My fish love it and they shift it dailly.

It's been a few days now and the water is crystal clear. I love this stuff, this fish show brighter colors than I've ever seen. I guess the dark rocks and background made them all dark, but now the true colors are showing. I know it sounded kinda high on price but its the only place here to get it. The stuff at Home Depot or at least the one here is super fine and blows everywhere. I have it in my 20 gallon and hate it. I'll probably switch my 100 gallon the filter sand and use the left over to redo the 20 gallon.

looks MUCH MUCH better mabirchell!! These fish LOVE to change the layout day by day in my tank- I swear the 5" red zebra in my tank took hints from finding nemo- he takes a mouthful of sand and spits it into all my powerheads several times an hour and creates a snow shower. I swear if I wasn't so into him and didn't have so much rock I'd put him on time out!

Thanks :). I need to make an updated movie, the tank looks even better now. I can't wait to put my fryeri back in. It makes me sad to see him all alone in the 20 gallon, but I've got to give the new fish time to settle in. But a good note my red shoulder peacock I've already got is coloring up very nicely now. In the last few days blue has almost covered him. Maybe the new rank is letting him color up.
