I have never bought pool filter sand because every bag I saw said that it contained some bacteriacide or similar.

Is it easy just to flush that stuff out, or are you guys finding sand without this in it?

Anybody?

Ulu, I don't know about availability where you live.
But I used to go to an abrasives supplier in Milwaukee that supplied the local area water filtration plants with filter media. The sand was bagged and clean, and because of its municipal drinking water use, no additives were allowed, and it was pH inert.
I'd get 50 lbs for $5.
It also supplied LFSs with aquarium gravel, sand blasters with sand, and Bonsai clubs.
You may want to call the local Bonsai club, and ask where they go for their tree substrate, that's how I first heard of the place (a Bonsai aficionado)

I asked about this elsewhere, but . . .

Will washing sand with prepared saltwater help to remove bactericides?

And does anyone know what types might be used?

The local pool store guy is useless.

I think the pool guy had Leslie's and Lowes has Chlorox. I don't remember what Ace had.
It all had the warning.

I use Leslie's and only did a quick rinse. Chlorox is easy, just rinse and add Prime while rinsing. I never read what was on the bag.
