went to Lowes and Home Depot to buy some for my wife's african cichlid tank and neither store had any. Does know of a chain store that carries pfs.

I usually get mine at Leslie's pool, I'm not sure in you have one close.

Nope. Just rinse it. I've used it for years. I typically use pfs or black diamond blasting sand.
