Pool Filtration Sand [best grain size?]

What is the best grain size for pool filter sand and what in your personal opinions do you think works best?

I have no clue what grain size is but the grains are about the size of hikari gold small pellets. I love it! My water changer cant pick up the sand but does pick up the waste.

Does the waste sit on top of your sand or go beneath it like in gravel?

thats all i have in my tanks except 1. the cleanings are a breeze

I am only aware of pool filter sand labeled as #20, for the grit/particle size. there may be other sizes but the Pool supply stores we went to only had this.

I used the quickcrete pool filter sand. It don't get sucked in my fx5 even when stirred up right next to the intake. Just be sure to rinse it well like usual
