Pool filter sand does not affect PH. So its safe to use with all fish.
I use it too. I have SA cichlids
Just makes sure to rinse it very well. Dumping it in a bucket and sticking a hose in it.
Wait until the water runs clear. Then add the sand to your tank.

Pool filter sand may also be labelled as "Nephelene syenite" on the bag, which is also acceptable.
