My question is what would be the best way to keep the sand clean other than when i vacumm, the tank is 4 feet from front to back so its hard to be able to vacum ,, shouldnt i be able to use power heads or sumthing ,,my 15 inch clown and 14 inch shovelnose keep the bottum a mess,,,currently running a wet dry and a xp3. the catch may be that i am only running one return pump and i have it set up for to returns so my shut off valve is hard ly open using a like mag 5 i think ,,planed on to mag 8 ,,im hoping the problem is just not enough turnover because i will be buying the pumps this weekend and tips or advice will be appreciated,,thanks

Wow - nice tank!
I'd try to find a way to get current flowing across the sand on the bottom so junk won't settle on the sand. Instead, it'll be pushed back up into the water where it should get sucked up by a filter intake or overflow.
This might be hard set up so that it doesn't blow the sand around though....

ive tried to place a powerhead attached to a spray type bar on the left side of he tank but im thinking that it is to small i also have a power head on the right side blowing to the intake for the xp3, i thought thid would help but not sure what to try next,,thanks for the thoughts

What are the dimensions on the tank? If it is 4' deep then I'd be going for something more along the lines of mag 18 if that is the 320G you are talking about.

but are you saying go with 2 mag 18 because i have to returns did not really want to split one pump into 2

Personally I would just split it. If you want to run two seperate pumps I'd go for two Mag 9.5 pumps at the least. That will hit you at a around 5 times turnover. I like 8-10 times turnover for most of my tanks.

I'd think about UGJ or in your case USJ's... Look at something like jawbone did here:

Thefishguy on the cichlid forum did the same thing with sand and used lace rock or something to conceal the jet heads. 1 pump with some plumbing and you're in biz!

Not a simple "add a powerhead" but I think the results would be worth it. IMO...
