If you want to increase the flow rate to entrain turds and carry them to your mechanical filter, then you will need larger diameter gravel. The velocities needed to pick up the stuff shown in your picture will blow your sand around as well.
You can use a white quartz gravel and mix it in with your sand in order to give it some stability if you want to add flowrate.

when i do a wc i will use a hose with no vac and suck up the turds, then attach the vac and get the little stuff.

haver tried the power head idea but this till baffleling me i love the look of my sand but over the past week i added a pleco to the group and i know they are pop factories but this is rediculous i have so much fish waste on top of sand next to the 2 pieces of driftwood i cand believ it ,,CAN SOMEONE LET ME KNOW what they use to or how they circulate water in large tanks to keep deitrus in circulation or do i just need to hurry up and add a bigger mag drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
