Poorly arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For some reason the forum just sent me the email notification today that I had a reply to my post. Usually it's instant! Unfortunately, the Arowana died on Monday the 14th. No signs of any illness, temp was at 78, tank has been cycled for months and there was 0 ammonia and nitrites in there (I test with the API master kit.) I never turn on the lights on my quarantine so the fish can be a little more relaxed and after it started laying on the bottom, I put a towel over the tank so movement wouldn't bother it. The Leopard Ctenopoma which was in the same tank with it at the LFS and in my quarantine tank is still doing great.

I believe the temp is a issue cause the problem. Always keep the temp higher than 86 F for the baby arowana. 78 F is way too low! Good luck for the next one.

Some just don't make it. And sometimes we cannot dind the cause.

Persevere.

Keep the temp over 86? Serious? Does anyone else agree with that?

86 is a bit high. I've always raised baby blacks or silvers in 83-84* range.

My new pig-of-a lei is at 80. Today is his 2 weeks mark with me. I swear he has already grown!

Thanks for the advise. I guess I still have much more to learn to be able to keep a healthy aro. I'm gonna keep doing research and putting aside everything the baby ones need before I get another one. Adding higher temps to the list!

I'm currently housing my 2.5 in aro in a 10g temporarily is this ok? I have a 55g and plan on getting a 265-300g in the near future. My 55 currently has a 4-5 in Oscar a 8-9 channel cat and a 5-6in common plec the temp for my 10g is 78-79 Range ph is a low 6 all other water conditions are good I was thinking of moving him into the 55g when he is 7-10in given the Oscar isn't to big
