Poorman's Monster Fish Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome build! Can’t wait to see this little guy grow out
I had so many people say that an Oscar will rearrange your tank and even get upset and tear things up to make a point. So, I decided to make it a big playground. A sand box. I have more toys I am working on to make them sink with different weight. Some I hope to make some boyant enough that when nosed they will rise up like a man on the moon and go a long way. So, instead of me getting upset with STUMP for moving things around, I will be happy with him.
That's the plan anyway!

I actually used that part of my Oscar's behavior to my advantage. I would deliberately move things around to keep him engaged, knowing he would move stuff back. He always did...it became a game.

I remember one time I was sick and couldn't attend the 225 for a week. I went to check everybody on day three. The entire 6 foot tank was WRECKED. Both heaters were pulled loose and floating, Boulders and a log turned over (standing on end). Huge piles of sand on each side halfway up the walls. There was a 4 foot stripe of glass that was cleared out. Fake plants everywhere floating. Filter pads on the 110 ACLs pulled out and floating, along with the stems being knocked loose. Tops all jacked up on the filter boxes (one was on the floor) Just a total mess. It was a one time deal, he never destroyed the tank like that again. He would still mess up stuff for mood though.

All that for attention. And Brick just sat in the middle looking at me innocently. I wanted to just turn the light off and go back upstairs.

....And Brick just sat in the middle looking at me innocently...
FYI, I chose the name STUMP, as I was inspired by the name BRICK. I put a lot of thought into the name. My second choice was REBAR, but is was not a single syllable like BRICK. Thanks for inspiring the name. I reading the story of BRICK, that is why my tank is a big sandbox, with sand toys. I will look for a bigger sandbox eventually. I read all the post and looked at all the pictures. that made me want and Oscar even more. When I try to stare STUMP down, he will not back down, but a lot of his black turns white in a fraction of a minute. STRANGE! But, he looks at me all cross-eyed!
