pop punk is in and of itself an oxymoron (as people have said) they are punk only in the sense that they play nothing but power chords but punk is more than a sound it's an identity/culture if you are trying to appeal to the mainstream your not going by the standard punk, "f*ck authority" ideals which means your not punk and if your not playing fast and making agressive music you sure as hell arn't punk.
Blink 182, Green day, Simple plan are all bands that are labelled pop-punk come on green day hasen't been a punk rock band for 20 years and the other ones never were.
