its cock but i say it "gok" because its the proper way in chinese

thank you so much

as i said before it just sounds so funny to me

now im interested how did that part of the fish manage to get such a name

you are 100 percent right and wrong. the trick is to put one fh in a 10g as a fry and work your way up in tank sizes as it grows. ive noticed the fry ive grown in iso in my 40 gs have smaller kok then the fry i grew out in the 20 gs. when raising fh as fry in groups you want as much tank space as possible, but when you iso the fish for its potential ive read and witnessed first hand that putting a small fish in a really big tank with to much space will punk the fh out making it a hider and also cause stress, and cause the kok, and color development to slow down. at the same time tho too small a tank is dangerous and not fair to your fish and could be fatal. the trick is to start your fish in a smaller tank and move up tank sizes as it grows. if you have no expierence on fh breeding i would recomend not even trying this because you might not know when your fish need a bigger tank which can cause SERIOUS health complications death and stunt growth forever which would kill your chances at kok and color

ok so when should you remve the fish and put in a bigger tank? at what size fish for a ten gallon

as soon as it hits near 1.5 inches i move up to a 20
you have to be sure to do it sooner then later bc like i said if the fish out grows of the space you will stunt color and kok. i only recommend this to experience fish breeders bc this can have serious consequences if you don't move ur fish soon enough

if i were you, i'd invest in a FH w/ BIG KOK genetics (like JPs), and grow it out in the tank you are planning to keep it in as an adult (less trouble of moving it from tank to tank.).

cuz if you have a fish that has small kok genes or destined to be KOK-less, it doesnt matter how badly you try to stress it out, it won't bring out the kok.

of course genes are the most important factor (you can't make a kok pop out of a fish that dosn't have the genes for it) , but his question was about tank size and how to get the max potential. like i said only for exp breeders. the point is not to give the fish to big of a space, as to stress it and scare it, or to give it too small of a space so you kill it. its all about NOT stressing the fish out and making sure it has the perfect size it needs. and this grows as the fish grows
