Well, my BN's started breeding a few cycles ago and are now on their 4th clutch of eggs.

The first batch disappeared to predation, I only saw one fry and he went shortly after.

The second batch was almost gone when I discovered the Betta was chowing down on the fry. I placed him in an alternative tanks and 5 of the fry continue to thrive at about 1.1"

The 3rd batch has about 7-10 0.7" fry remaining.

Basically, I have no room for monthly batches of BN pleco's, and none of the shops locally need them either.

Is putting "Killer" the betta back in the tank an ethical for of population contol?

in my experience the male will off all the fry when he is ready to breed again I had a pair that seemed to be breeding once a month I pulled the first two batches of fry and after that i just ran out of tank space and the male just took care of population control

how did u get them to breed?

They figured it out themselves. I was surprised as I was not aware of their sex(es);)

in my experience the male will off all the fry when he is ready to breed again

I don't think this is the case, some of the previous kid hang out with "dad".

Throw the betta back in. Let nature take its course.

nothing wrong with letting nature do it's job. And you'll have a beautiful betta to boot.
