Hey All
I have a Eheim 2250 sitting around and decided to get it up and running on my 6ft tank. The problem is that since the canister is so big, I want to put it in the storage room behind the tank behind the wall. To do this Ill have to cut out holes in the drywall. I guess I never really thought about it because I have always been able to move the intake and outputs on my other tanks. This setup will kinda limit that. (I dont think my wife would appreciate 10 different holes in the drywall :) )

So the question is, where do you guys position your intake and returns on your tanks? Intake on one end, return on the other? Intake in the middle? Intake and return a third of the way in from the ends?

Thanks for the input!

Cmon people I'm just taking a little pole here. Jus tell me how you have yours setup :)

Ok I have 3 XP 3's 2 on my 250 gallon and 1 on my 100 gallon. On the 250, I have intakes in each back corner and the spray bar on the back wall closer to the center. On the 100 I have the intake on the back right side and the spray bar on the left side, glass ,not on the back but on the side wall. The one on the 100 gallon works better from what I can see the water flow doing. Water flow goes across the long part of the tank and hits the right wall then goes downward toward the intake perfectly.

Howdy,

I always had them on the same side. However, I never had to perfuse a 6 ft tank before I got my 220 gal with new Eheim (2080) ... which has two outlets :D

Honestly, I'd go for opposite ends in your case. Or get a split adapter and create two outlets... One more hole in the wall won't hurt, and you'll get optimal circulation.

i keep them as far apart as possible. intake about 2/3 of the way down, return on the water surface

In my observation I think you'll get the optimal performance from your filter if you have the intake on the bottom and the output on the top in the same area. My set-up is such that the intake is on the bottom right and the output is a spray bar that I shortened to fit snuggly on the right top wall so that the water is skimming across the top. The water is pushed to the far end of my 6' tank. This keeps all the floating food in one corner and keeps the oxygen exchange high because I'm moving a lot of the water surface.

Just my observation.

I'm running the intake on the lower right corner, and the return on the left about a inch below the water line. Never thought about why until this minute...Should I re-evaluate? I currently have a 29Gal with a XP2...
