Positioning of Intake and Return?

I'm running the intake on the lower right corner, and the return on the left about a inch below the water line. Never thought about why until this minute...Should I re-evaluate? I currently have a 29Gal with a XP2...

You should be fine. The xp2 should give you enough circulation in your 29.

I like the intake low towards a rear corner and the return towards the top at the other rear corner. But I usually use more than one filter. Think about cutting a slot and framing it, that allows you to adjust the position of the tubes and still looks good.

My intake is as far away from the out nozzle as possible. Intake on the bottom, to collect dirt and the out has a nozzle outfitted to skim the surface of the water.

I don't know if this is supreme, optimum etc. but as a personal habit for community tanks:
Intake= low RH side (about 5-6" away from the side glass, Output =upper opposite end of the tank (eheim diffuser added) so that surface water moves enough to keep protein scum away. Airstone/bubbler near the intake also (but not close enough to lose siphon on the intake!).

I like to have intake and output opposite ends and med strength "bubblers" opposite ends as well. Creates a good circular water and oxygen flow. Keeps fish that like strong current happy but wouldn't blow away an angelfish.

I've got almost the same setup as you...6 foot tank (125 gallon) and a eheim 2250. Mine is in-wall between living and dining room, and the design requires me to have inlet and outlet on same side for best aesthetic purposes. I have the inlet about a foot deep, and outlet right on top of it. I also have a powerhead right next to the inlet/outlet. I'm happy with the setup, although without the powerhead I don't think I would have enough circulation, with both tubes being on same side.
