We've got one in the shop in a turtle tub that chooses to hide under a rock on the land side all the time - we thought it was dead up until last week when we moved the tub and found it under the rock! It only comes out to eat and drink once or twice every few months!

That's weird. All the mud turtles I ever kept were friendly. My current Red-Cheek Mud is extremely tame and constantly begs for food as soon as he sees me.

Thats very uncomon but not unherd of, one of my favorite turt books tells about a similar behavior in a Sthernoterus minor the dwarf musk

Ours literally does nothing but sleep Vicious, I can pick him up and he doesn't notice, just stays asleep...put him back down and he's still asleep...the only way to wake him up is by poking him or putting him in the water.

Laziest turtle, EVER.

He may be showing odd behavior because he's in with two concentric terrapin's and an argentine sideneck, but it's an XXL waterland tub (the one a full grown man can fit in).

Odd, I've never heard that common name used for S. minor before. It's a sensible translation from the Latin name, I guess, but inappropriate for the species since it is no smaller than S. odoratus.
