There is a bichir at my LFS labeled as polypterus endlicheri. I just want to make sure it is labeled right so I figured I would post it up here. I am stuck between getting this guy or having them get me in an ornate. Anyway, sorry for the crappy pics but can anyone positively ID this as an Endli or could it be something else?? Also, it is $60. is this a fair price for one? He is around 4" right now.

dont think its bad. not sure how common they are around where u live.
they can grow out to be really beautiful too.
treat him like a prince and it will be money well spent!

But....for 4" Endlicheri I don't think it's worth $60 because I can get 3" for $35 @ LFS price here. For $60 I would expect the fish to be 7-10 inches. Are the black marking patterns deep in coloration? If yes, then it may be worth that price if you cannot find any other LFS that carry them. I wouldn't pay that much unless I really want the fish and the black marking pattern is really is. Have you consider mail order bichirs? You can get a 6"-8" Endli for $35.
 
So what do you think a 4" ornate should cost?
 
My ornate could be a beauty pagent contestant but he just sits in one place most of the time. I really like my delhezi and senegal who swim around the tank a lot and are full of personality. Oh and they're just killer looking as well. A lot of people praise ornates but it must be when they get real big. Mine's about 9-10" and kind of boring. I'd gladly trade you for an endli.
