Possibility for a 5ish gallon "pond"

I see no problem. Set this tank up on the North face of your house to avoid overheating at the noon hours. Run an outdoor electrical cord to the tank for heating and filtration. When winter comes, put the bonsai in the fridge like many people do and set the pond in your house so the fish don't freeze. Or just bring the fish inside and unplug the pond so you don't have to dismantle your setup.

My intention is to have this tank indoors, and maintain an environment good enough to sustain the bonsai trees healthily year round(Going with tropical trees, looks like ficus is my best bet, so I don't need to simulate winter)

I'm planning on just sectioning out the pond, probably with rigid garden edging and silicone, since it'll be a small amount of water, even if I go big under 20 gallons, I figure that should work fine.

Guess my thread changed or something, but my main focus on asking here is still about good fish to inhabit a small ~5-10 gallon shallow area, but since it's already here, any suggestions on setup, since I already have the filtration planned out?
