Hi

The following photos are of a fish that is causing some disagreement in a different thread. Most agree it is mostly Convict. One says it's part Black Belt, others say it's part HRP. I bought it as a Pink Marbled Convict.

Does anyone feel fairly certain that they can identify it's ancestry?

Thanks

And a bulky one at that.

I am absolutely not sure it is a hybrid.

Marbled Con with possible HRP ancestry. I say that because of the red in the tail. I breed marble cons and that coloration IME is rare. But then again who can be really sure of the liniage of any con unless it is wild caught.

Several people have suggested that this fish is a hybrid while others in this thread say is just a pink marbled Convict.

The Convict in question is currently guarding eggs with it's mate, posted in a different thread.
Right now I can't get any more good pictures of it because of the tank it's in is tangled with java moss. The longer I have kept this fish the more colorful it gets. It is developing orange spots set regularly apart across it's lateral line on both sides. The orange spots are getting brighter every day. Looking back at older photos of this fish I can barely make out a hint of these spots that I did not notice before. The inset pictures shows where the spots are on the actual fish. And yes, I will get pictures of these spots when the fry are old enough to remove from the parents, at which time I will remove most of the Java Moss so that the fish will be more visible for photography. (The spots are not yet as obvious as the circles I made on the insert but they are significantly brighter and more orange than on this photo made three[?] weeks ago)

→My question now is: "Do orange spots on the Convict where shown in the inset of the photo suggest a possible species that could have contributed to it's genetics?"

thanks...
