Possible Florida bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is speculated that FL Hybrids may have crossed with the Tems as well. I have caught a few Bass with cheek markings.

thats pretty interesting, how cold does the water get in the winter that the tems couldnt survive?

Water gets below 60 degrees F in the shallow waters. Don't know how low it gets in the deeper waters, could be warmer.

We have had freezing winters, too. It's been pretty warm the last five years but we've had days when the ambient temp is in the 40s.

Nice! I have fries from parents like those:D

They released tems and ocellaris but they said because tems are so finicky with water temps and that they don't hit sexual maturity for 5 years that they didn't last, fwc said they did a number of samples and have enough proof to say there are no tems left but I could have swore I caught one, although i do understand some ocellaris look very similar to tems, heres the pic

can you guys catch cichla year round? or is it usually best in the summer....bet its fun during the spawn.

it been so hot here that i dont know it we will have winter at all this year and im still catching pbass everyday i go. we did have one cold front maybe a month ago and it really shocked the fish in my area there was thoousands of dead pbass large mouths and other fish. it was weird the pbass frys did not suffer at all it was mostly big fish. afte 5 day or so the fish came out slowly and now im catching good like if it was summer.
