Ok so lately I've been wanting a carp. Obviously a common carp would get WAY to big for my current largest setup (75 gal) so I'm looking for another alternative that could fit in something like a 40 or 50 breeder. I don't know if this can be found in any LFSs in the US but does anyone ever see wild colored goldfish? I believe their wild species is known as Cruccian Carp but I may be mistaken. I'm basically just after any type of goldfish (not fancy though! Either common or comet) with their natural wild coloration.

Not quite, crucian carp are very similar to golfish, but not the same. (Crucian carp: Carassius Carassius, Goldfish: Carassius Auratus).

Might be worth checking out a local goldfish breeder, sometimes a goldfish will just stay brown. Usually these get culled but if you ask nicely you could probably get one.

At my LFS many of the feeder goldfish have the wild color you are looking for. I think they get sent in as feeders cause most people aren't looking for that color. Best yet they are 10 cents each. I bought three once one died off right away I had the other two for years.

Ah didn't know that, thanks for the info my friend.

I may try to look for one then. I'm sure one of the 100 or so members of my local fish club could hook me up.

On a side note how long could a grow out a common carp in a 40 or 50 B if I got it at 2-4"? I've got a friend who owns my favorite LFS who has a ton of large ponds and always says the majority of fish that I could growout he'd take.
