I'm currently working at my local family owned fish store.
We acquired a baby Oscar that had sunken belly and is blind in one eye.
I quarantined it, put it on hold, treated it with prazipro, and got it eating. The little guy was doing great. Boss moved it into the tank with the other baby Oscars to sell yesterday.
This morning when I got to the store, it was sitting on the bottom of the tank in the corner looking pretty beat up. By the time I closed, it had what looks like a severe fungal infection. I texted my boss, told her what was going on and asked if I could keep it.
By the time I got the little guy home, it was in such bad shape that it let me just pick it up without any fight.
I dabbed a bit of peroxide on the infected area, and it's currently in a 10 gallon with 3 tablespoons of salt, and paraguard.
I did the peroxide treatment because whatever this guy has is pretty aggressive, so I figured it would need aggressive treatment.
It's currently floating on its side in the back corner of the tank.
Anything else I can do for this little guy? I've been emotionally invested in it since it showed up at the store.
I don't have test results as I just set up the hospital tank he's in today.
As far as the store water, I'm not sure. Last time I ran tests, the nitrates were running at around 40 ppm. I do weekly 75% water changes on all of the tanks.
