Possible HITH??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
water changes should be done weekley, i do 50% every week and some times twice a week. pellets are different, they have different protein levels fat levels etc. a varied diet and a clean tank is key to having a healthy oscar.

how long have you had him now??? i would do a 50% water change atleast once a week when he is better. but for now do 30% changes every other day and add aquariam salt.

Sorry posted at same time as you i have had him for about 3 weeks now and i did'nt change water cause it looked clean i just siphoned it a litte bit sorrry don't flame me i am still new.

i do once to twice a week with mine.
just bc its clear, doesnt mean its clean
in otherwords, a fish is swimming in its own toilet, waiting for it to look dirty is not the healthy choice.

Weekly water changes (min of 30 -50%) whether it looks dirty or not, be sure to vacuum gravel. Vary the diet, meaning not just different pellets. Feed Krill (frozen or/and Freeze dried), spirulina based foods, etc. Do not overfeed, if food is left on bottom remove it.
I have seen people who maintain a strict water regimen and still have a HITH problem.
Also I am not a big fan of food sticks the tend to dissolve and break down, get blown all
over, so I stick to pellets like Hikari which stay together better.

Ok thanks guys i just cleaned and siphoned it OMG all the gunk i feel kinda bad so i am going to do once or twice a week now like all oscars he kinda sulked for a few seconds but he is happy agian gave him some bloodworms so ish all good ^_^.

really get into your gravel and clean it up, also add some melafix.
It cleans the wounds that are the hith.
i'd do 50% twice a week, but really it's all about a good syphoning taking water off the top does nothing, get in there and get it clean.
as far as diet goes, in some ls you can get vitamin gels stuff like that.
you can soak your pellets a little, or i get some soak pieces of shrimp in it and my O loves it.

Ok thanks but i am really sure its not HITH now i looked a little close and there smooth no holes i think they are wounds from the other oscar at my LFS that oscar was really vioent don't know why but yer for now i am just cleaning out tank alot he seems fine and is still eating well but thanks everyone for the help.
