Possible Ich?

He is in a 75 right now, how should I add the salt? Should I fill a 5 gallon with aquarium water dissolve all 15 tablespoons in it and pour it in, or how much should I add at first?
No I didn't quarantine, this is my first lesson learned I guess I will from now on.
Thanks for the help

All it takes is a cup. Get a cup and grab some tank water. Stir the salt in there and keep stirring until it is completely dissolved. Then add slowly to the tank. Since your tank is a 75g, we need 15 tablespoons. Divide the total number of tablespoons into 5 groups. Dose your tank with 3 tablespoons of salt at a 15 minute interval. It should take you an hour and 15 minutes before you complete the dosage. It has to be added slowly to avoid osmotic shock.

Don't separate any of your fish. All fish within the vicinity of the infected ones should be treated together in the same tank.

And it should be debunked since that is pure nonsense. Table salt is sodium chloride. True that additives have been added but the additives added in general will not hurt the fish nor is iodine an issue since the potassium iodide has also been added to neutralize the toxic effects of pure iodine. I've used table salt with no issues. Ask the members in Aquariacentral.com. A majority also vouch for table salt as a cheaper alternative to aquarium salt.

We're talking about sodium chloride. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. We need sodium chloride for ich, not magnesium sulfate.

Thank you for the clarification :)

I raised temp to 86, added an airstone, and I am adding the salt as you said. What else should I do for the 14 days?

Sam, I'd recommend you do your water changes every 3 days to avoid tremendous changes in their environment which could stress them. I'd advise doing at least 40%. Assuming you replace 40% of the old water, redose the salt per the water volume you replaced. You could also increase the amount by another half of the total water volume to be sure the salt treatment remains potent to ich but do exercise caution when dosing salt to avoid harming your fish. As usual, dissolve thoroughly and add slowly. That's the most important guideline you need to adhere to, to avoid issues in conjunction to the use of salt.
