I posted this in the C/A Cichlids section but didn't get many responses other than "it looks like a Hybrid." I wonder if this is a better place to get an ID of my big guy. I've had him (some say her?) for about 3 1/2 to 4 years and he is now 10". Thanks for the help!

I say vieja synspilum x herichthys cyanoguttum (texas). So you decide to keep him? I saw him on a FS thread not too long ago.

Yeah I don't really like many veija but that one looks awesome. And I think gutted is right about it being crossed with texas. Really nice looking fish.

He was sold to me by my LFS as a Texas so that combination makes sense. I'm still looking to see if someone around me has a big tank with big aggressive fish that may want him. I can't keep anything else with him due to his aggression. If not, I'll keep him as a wet pet and hopefully upgrade to a 300g someday!

I say keep him. Put him in a 90 or 120 gallon and do the wet pet thing. You could probably get some nice looking kamfa's out of him if he is fertile.

So how about some ideas on how to sex my fish? I know it's difficult through pictures but I've had people on MFK say both male and female. If I'm even going to attempt to find a mate, I'll need to know it's sex. Thanks
