possible mate?

It's a matter of opinion at the end of the day, no right or wrong answer. Personally, I have kept convicts in 20 gallons and felt that it was just barely enough, but larger is always better.

The rule I use for for cichlids in my tanks, is 10 gallons of water minimum, per inch of adult fish, due to territoriality and aggression issues. In nature a pair on convicts might normally guard an area of about 200 gallons
So for me, a 60 gallon tank is bare minimum for a single pair where the male gets 6".
The old adage of an inch per gallon, only applies to fish like guppies, danios, or neons and the like, not cichlids.
Couldn't agree more.
The op has already stated he's having aggression issues with the pair,I guess that says it all.

I never said there was aggression ,maybe for a few hours but they got along fine that's why I put them in my sons 90 gal tank

I think in the 20 you would of had problems, especially when the male wants to breed and the female is not ripe.
Should be ok in the 90 though.

I have a 4 inch black convict who for the last 3 weeks has hid behind the filter,so I decided to try and get him za mate, now I know my tank is kinda small 20 gal but since I put her in he has done nothing but harass her and chase her he has eaten for the 1st time in 3 weeks my question is will this stop or is she doomed? The guys at the lfs sayed this might happen for a little while but it has been going on all day, what do you guys think?
