yep if i was buying $$$$$$ it would be them

i did have a shoal of 10 at one stage and the rays did eat 2 and sucked the eyes out of another 2

but before you get any new fish i would bring the amount of rays you have to about 2 unless you are thinking of getting a tank 2 times the size of the one you have

6 rays is a lot in a tank that size

I personally like the looks of a schooling fish. I have barbs in my tank currently and they work great but silver dollars, tats, armatus, giant gouramis, dats, bass and alotof others are all great tankmates but as allready stated your tank size is not going to work for a lifetime, it's size is even to small for 1 female motoro. Like tk said a tank 2x the size would be great foe a lifetime.

yeah, I'll either upgrade by next year or reduce the number. the black bar is unfortunately not available easily here. and besides I already have a shoal of 4 regular 4-5" SDs in my 240.

what's the min. ideal foot print for a tank if I wanna keep all 6 rays ? 8' x 3.5' enough ?

This depends on the type of Rays and how big those actual individuals will get, Personally I think 2 -3 well fed Motoros from a big bloodline will need or benefit from 8X3 so I think 6 would need more IMO. But having said that I would not try 6 young Rays in a 5X3 let alone thinking of adding more fish.

You might have a massive sump, huge water changes and pristine water quality for all I know which allows you to get away with much more than others do with much bigger tanks.
