first off I'm absolutely brand new to this sort of hobby, doing my research into it as I'm really fascinated by the red belly piranha's. (Who isn't?).
I live in Burlington Ontario, just outside Toronto. I'm thinking of getting a shoal of red belly piranha's some time in the near future.
Reading over these forums so far has been a big help. What I haven't been able to find so far is the rough estimate cost of rbp's once I do find them, and the optimal size tank for 6 - 7 of them. Along with the cost of appropriate live feeders. This all started with a live mouse feeder seen on youtube which is what caught my attention to them in the first place.
oh and of course, are these things even legal in Ontario?
I'm certainly not going to rush into anything, but if I am going to do it I want to make sure that I do it right, and that I've got all the information needed to make an educated decision.
and they're a good shoaler, but they do grow big mind you, around 11". A 75 gallon is often considered the minimum for 3-4, and the rule of thumb is one piranha per 20 gallons. You could do 6 nicely in a 125 gallon aquarium.
