possible oscar tankmates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK then so I should give up completely now i know why my mate who sold me my oscar laughed so hard as I left the shop, I love my oscar to death but he is the biggest pain the ass, he murdered my pleco. He shreds anything that has the misfortune of falling in his tank, he bit my 6 year old nephew LOL and for the rest of the night he kept on checking to see if his finger was still attached, but needless to say he no longer puts his fingers anywhere near it! Goddammit I had my heart set on convicts, BTW guys in Australia we have some harsh laws against half the fish you guys get to own, so needless to say I'm jealous. Thanks anyway.

i have a couple of oscars, 1 being bout 11inch in a 4ft tank with 2 plecos bout 8-10inch also has a texas bout 6inch, red devil bout 5inch and a flowerhorn bout 5 inch theyve allways got on real well for probly like a year.. but recently the only dramas is texas seems to think hes dominating the tank but the oscar is big enuf to handle himself...

Out of my experiance i think good match ups for oscars as long as sizes are similar and tank is decent size would be Jaguars, Bass, Texas, Red Devils, Black belts and plecos for clean up (still deciding on the flower horn as he is a lot smaller and dont know how he will be once bigger)

Not convicts!!!!!!!! I have had a small pair of convicts keep 2 fullgrown oscars in the corner of a 55g tank

Would you also keep 2 adult Great Danes and 2 Chiwawa's in a closet? :screwy:

OP,
If you have a very large tank, I would suggest any peaceful to moderately aggresive fish that is larger than your Oscars mouth. A truely bold cichlid will tear yoru Oscars a new one.

Reading this is like nails on a blackboard.
The sad reality of it all is that your are not even ashamed of such a post.

I have a ~10" Oscar and keep him with a ~7" GT and ~4" Convict (had to get rid of my JD because GT became highly aggressive towards him). The GT keeps chasing the convict, the convict chases the oscar out of his zone, and the oscar chases the GT when hes moody. Basically it all just comes down to the temperament of the individual fish on what you can and cannot keep him with.

P.S.
Sticks to 1-2 sec chases and nobody ever gets harmed

So, thats a no to convicts???LOL My oscar fnailed a pleco the same sizeup.
