Possible shark tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah i was under no dilusion I could get bamboos in there. I briefly thought of a grey bamboo but then remember all the issues people were having getting the actually type not a mislabeled one. So to be realistic i figured A cat shark (2 if they function better in a pair.) plus like i said i was trying to minimize water changes i.e. Target feeding one cat shark couldnt be so much i couldnt handle... or at least i hoped.

Best way to reduce the amount of water changes is to keep the tank understocked. I added a 55 gallon drum to my 300 as a way to dilute the waste and it helped. I was thinking of adding some led rope lights in there and turn it into a algae reactor.

If you don't mind doing coldwater chain catsharks are cool.

Actually you could also possible fit a Arabian or Gray Bamboo shark in that tank as well. As they both max out at about (30"/~76 cm). A single average male White-spotted Bamboo may be possible as well.

With temperate water catsharks like the Chain Catsharks - you would need a very good chiller - basically a chiller which could keep the tank at no more than 59 F/15 C. Which is why I would suggest the Atelomycterus catsharks (Coral, Marbled, Bali, & Spotted-belly) which are all tropical in nature, and tend to do quite well in aquariums kept between 72-80 F/22.2-26.7 C.
