What if both are of the same size?

Only time will tell when the gator gar strikes the ornate bichirs. Captive breed ornates only max out 16-18 inches and rarely get up to 20". Captive breed gator gar can get up to 5-6 feet or more. I used to have 3 gator gars back in the Philippines too all at 5-6 feet and I used to feed them with 2 feet long kois. An ornate bichir would look like worm to a gator gar.

so what other fish can i have with the gator gar besides arowanas?

Even your arowana will soon be eaten too. My 6 gator gars ate 2.5 long silver aro back then. They were supposed to be as tank mates.

I recommend that you need a very large tank or a pond about 12x12x5 feet or more if you plan to comm a gator gar. Mine were kept with 2 large 6.5 feet arapaimas and some 4 feet RTC. There are a bunch of common and sailfin plecos in the pond as well but some of them probabaly got eaten but they breed there many times already.

Here is the pond back in the Philippines. Can't really see any fish in the pics as it's blomming of green algae and it's 4-6 deep.

pond looks really great. i was planning to get the much smaller ones though for just my 75 gallon tank. so the gator gars would be approximately 6 or 7 inches only. if they do grow, their growth will be stopped due to the tank size. so is it really impossible to have ornate birchs in there given that both are given the tank restriction?

It will stop and it will look ugly as it's will become deformed. Or it will die in an early age or breaks its back.

Fish growing to it's tanks size is a complete BS.
