theres no reason to get bashed for this post ...it is a good question.. but no easy answers... the best you can do is leave the light off... and try not to make sudden movements.. tell everyone to enter his area calmly.. and try never to wear red.. for some reason red really sets them off.. i have red Pj's and i make sure i don't enter the fish room in them.. my big old silver gets rattled at even a glimpse of me in red..

As soon as I saw the 125g + silver, I had the same(??) thought with the OP that he might be bashed on the tank size...

jut spook it more often it'll get use to it

i heard of reported success with blacking off the sides of the tank as well as the back, so only the front can be viewed, then remove once they get a bit bigger and more used to you.

worked for me and my hemibagrus wyckii.

i use to have an 8'' aro in a 125.

It wasn't really skittish, but what i like to do is. just Stand and put my hands on the tank for 5-10 minutes, and then feed him. The tank was in the living room so it was high traffic, and tv was on. you could try hanging up a shirt near the tank. maybe it get use to the general figure of a person.

I initially had issues with my silver aro in a bare 9ft tank but after adding a large amount of driftwood for cover he settled right down and will happily swim around my arms while i'm working on the tank.

i had my 16" silver in my 125 for about 9 months. he was generally calm. he would come up to the top and take food right out of my hand. then i moved him to my 300 last weeks and he isnt comfortable yet and is very skittish. hope it doesnt last long. btw ive learned he doesnt like nets anywhere near him.
