Possibly mixing SA and African cichlids...identify?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a very limited knowledge on Mbuna, but most Peacock females will be brownish colored. FYI by adding females your aggression will increase during spawning cycles. This will most likely cause loss of fish. Males will compete to spawn with the pregnant female.

OB Peacocks from what I have heard from others get very nasty when they get older. I personally do not have any but know some people that do. Some have made it 2 to 3 years and they snapped, killing everything in days. Just what I have heard, never had personal experience with them.
YOU'RE SPREADING RUMORS!

Yeah thats what i keep hearing..
I have a medium sized black peacock that has these raging teeth and is getting kinda nippy..but only with my catfish and my hands..the yellow tail Acei is biggest, then the red zebra is next biggest, so the black guy doesnt F with them.. I am going to get more this weekend, i just hope I find enough females, or people who can tell the difference btwn them when selling to me.

I am going to help best i can. The multi colored one looks to be a OB peacock. The yellow ones are yellow lab cichlids and the purplish one is an acei. All peacfull mbuna except I have hear the OB peacocks can be a bit nasty. I would start by increasing the number of fish you already have trying to get a ratio of 1m for every 2-3 females. You can defiantly add more species too. Some fish that might work are hongi, rusty cichlids, and maingano.
I dont see any yellow labs in those pics.

True... No yellow labs... yellow tail = Ps. Acei, black & white = Cy. Afra, Calico = Aul. OB x2, Big Yellow = possible male M. Lombarodi, small yellow & Dark brown look like some sort of hybrids

the Lombarodi CAN get pretty nasty, no rumor there, hence the fatality. Yellow Labs are very docile and only show territorial behaviors in their own species, or towards smaller fish during spawning
