First one. ASIAN AROWANA. Considering this fish is being farmed in many countries, so therefore, the market should be flooded. I am talking about countries that are allowed to have these magnificent fish as pets. I was jealous of the couple in the latest TFH issue, they were allowed by a Fish and Wildlife "friend and neighbor" to "hold on" to the eight asian aros that were confiscated. AND CAN YOU BELIEVE THESE LARGE AQUARIUM PLACES THAT COULD NOT KEEP AN ASIAN AROWANA ALIVE !!!!, this is just, for lack of a better word, imbecilic. They are supposed to be experts in the field. Another disturbing concept that I was told by Fish and Wildlife agent, that the confiscated, or smuggled fish, are DESTROYED. Anyway back to topic, the price of these fish, should be around $100 to $500 dollars. ANY fish, except the ones that are highly special (i.e., gold alligator gar), can probably dictate the asking price.

I believe Clown Loaches are overpriced, as are some of those crazy African Cichlids.
Clown Loaches are everwhere. Walk into any pet shop and there they are.
Hybrids can at least be justified (Or rationalized) because of rarity but many "Exotic" species are simply overpriced. I guess the sellers know that hobbyists interested in exotics are willing to pay $$.

I know of a friend who got a MONSTER (no pun intended!) deal on Lepporinus (spelling?) he paid like 99 cents for them and now they are truly humongous!

Most plecos are expensive, but most are wildcaught hence higher prices. But this is where the most effort is put in CB, and the prices are still rediculous imo.

flowerhorns are way overpriced imo

1. arowanas (spelling?)
2. Some African Cichlads
3. alot of Plecos
4. just about any saltwater fish

They're worth whatever someone is willing to pay...........

For asian arowana, their price is only overpriced if they stay at a high level, even when the demand for them is lower then the production. The demand has been higher and higher for these fish.

Do you realize the cost of shipping these fish? Most exotic plecos, and nearly all saltwater fish have to be wild caught. You have to consider that the guy catching them, the person shipping them, the person receiving them, and the shop owner selling them has to make money. Also, there are any licenses required, shipping cost, not once but two or more times.

I agree that the zebra pleco is overpriced as it is being captive bred quite easily, and there are several breeders. However, there are still plenty willing to spend $200+ dollars for them.

Exactly. Supply and Demand. If everybody quit buying Clown Loaches the price would go down to a buck apiece.
