For me, the most overpriced, overrated fish would have ot be Discus. I don't think they're that great looking, they're too sensitive for me to want to keep them, and they're pricey!

It is all a matter of opinion at the end of the day. Any fish they we don't like is considered overpriced, and any that we do like is considered worth it.
Don't forget about perception. Someone not in the aquarium hobby would say why did you pay $30 for that fish? Has anyone paid more than a $1,000 for their dog? Some people would say $1,000 for a dog is way too much while others would say you got a great deal. Personally I have never spent more than $50 on a single fish, and those were on a Black Aro, Jardini Aro, and FH. If I had the room and the back yard was finished I would consider spending a few hundred maybe a$1K on an Asian Aro.
hybrids are all over priced IMO (please no flame wars over hybrids, i dont like those or painted/dyed fish)
imo hybrids are culls...culls are feeders...feeders are $.04 each wholesale...way way too much of a markup on them.
however i have spent over 600 dollars on a fish so its all relative to the buyer.
though i just picked a 40 dollar catfish at work and apprently a similar specimen on aquabid was attempting 800 dollars....i think thats INSANE but then again i didnt have to think about the price when i got mine it was coming home with me one way or the other.
