what i was trying to get out of this thread was a pic of someones fish that was all black as a juvi and is now an adult. everyone keeps claiming they have a black dempsey when there is no such thing and saying that black might be a new color morph.

Who is everyone?

I just keep reading post about people saying that their jacks are different and are actually black dempseys, soo i was wondering if they had pics of their black dempseys as adults

I have seen a few people saying they have what is a "black jack" as well...I had a female that was nearly jet black, and fully grown. I got her from Twhittle. I think some fish just tend to be more black. I have seen this with cons as well.

Here are a few good examples of different color intensities in convicts. I think this is what the deal with JD's is. I see black cons all the time, and would not classify them any differently than I would a regular convict.

the black coloring can be attributed to different things for different fish . i have a jd male that goes completely pale when stressed , but will turn black as coal when in breeding mode . also have another male that turns black when he's stressed , but gets a deep green hue to him when he's in breeding mode . as far as there being a new "black" color morph i'd say NO . its just a standard jd with mood swings bringing the black out .

i have a dempsey that was black as a baby. it is about 5" now. the base color has alot to do with the color of the environment. i took this same "black dempsey" and put it in a tank with bright gravel and it looked very light and washed out. some dempseys just look black when juvies. they change color to blend in with surroundings.
