Amazing how a fish could be a few dollars in Africa but worth so much in other countries.
isn't this always the case? just look at snakehead in Asia vs. their price elsewhere. Or jardini/leichardti in aussie vs. elsewhere. true not every fish's price jumps 100 folds once they leave their native country, but the point is their worth will increase.

It is getting the fish which is the problem, I don't know why but they just don't get imported???
I can't wait until somebody start importing them into the US and Asia
i'm sure it will happen. I have faith in Toyin
basically what i meant in post #22 was that these Pbb
from East Africa were never collected and then sold by Africa fish suppliers to importers worldwide. What happened was Japan sent people to East Africa to find this fish, with the help of the locals. Once they knew where, a japanese company then proceeded to collect them and import them into japan. So from the start these fish were destined to head back to Japan. As for price, it's only supply and demand and monopoly. But of course the company also invested a lot to import this fish, i'm sure. For most people outside japan, it really doesn't matter because they aren't looking to sell these fish to the global market.
so why can't others import this fish? Or rather why don't suppliers supply this fish? Here's what i could gather. 1) accessibility. its hard to get to where these fish are. 2) don't really have suppliers who export fish from East Africa where these Pbb are found, so to find a supplier who deals with bichirs would be even harder. There are only a few bichir species in that region of Africa, not nearly as abundant as Central and Western Africa. i could be wrong, but i don't think there are that many fish coming out of that part of Africa anyway. Bottom line is if an importer wants this fish, they would have to find a supplier who's willing to go find it, or go find it themselves, but since it's really not a stable region, there's a lot to consider. But as with all things, its probably just a matter of time.
KEEP IN MIND: what i said above applies ONLY to Pbb from East Africa (Lake Turkana/Omo River/Nile River), which are the ones in all of these pics posted so far.
So what about the ones that are available? These are from a different location, Chad to be specific, quite a distance away from East Africa. So naturally don't expect them to look like the ones in these pics. There are differences.
whew...long post... thanks for reading to whoever reaches this point
