Are they really that rare? I've caught them on multiple occasions in the mountains of North Carolina. From what I understand they are relatively common.

They are abundant in their range but their range is quite small. To my knowledge they are only present in Western NC and Eastern TN. Hey 2,000 posts :)

Wow. 2000 posts in less than a year. Can you not buy them from a breeder? I feel like Sachs or someone like that would have them.

Just beautifull, Ive always hoped the Missouri department of conservation would start letting aquarist raise and propagate one of the largest and pretties darters the endangered Niangua darter
