Post Where You Get Your Ray Food. (in quantity)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Huge smelt shortage at the moment so I can't get it here right now either.

I guess they are expecting the fishing boats to start catching up in the next few weeks.

Smelt here is about $5/pound and shrimp is about $15/pound

I too am looking for quantity discounts but not having any luck.

Jehmco.com has 3"-4" IQF smelt in 11lb boxes for $47. Best price I find.

We have a few Rest Depot cards if you need to use one just let me know. I work at "Metry's Crews Inn" in Harrison Township. Around 20k in food gos through my kitchen in a week in the summer, chances are my suppliers might be better.

Main reason we don't use rest depot that often is the distance and the convenience of having things delivered

Hey John~ just checked-out on-line menu for Metry's.....looks pretty darn good! how's that seared tuna appetizer?

very good, that the perch and my secret recipe crab cakes are probably our biggest sellers

With the beautiful weather we are having you can't beat the atmosphere down there for sure. As long as you don't come down during a crazy busy time I can take real good care of you.

If you do end up coming down make sure to ask for me, I am off on mon. and tue.

I buy all my ray food from Jehmco.com

What are you feeding from Jehmco that is affordable? lol Rays still small I take it?

krill, sand eels, silversides... they are 12"+

What I find hard to work out is the different types of food that fit in to the category of "Shrimp" across different countries - this is a very generic name. Do people buy these as "FRESH FISH" as technically you should not re-freeze if it has been frozen and defrosted. The UK Tesco fish counter shows as fresh but there is a notice to say "do not re-freeze" or are people buying frozen "shrimp"

I have often wondered about frozen prawns and wonder if this is what people are on about or is shrimp a freshwater beastie? Anyone got any pics?

I was feeding krill superba but find it now too small (about an inch long) and it is messy but I do want to feed some shell on food as I think it is closer to natural food.

I use Whitebait, Lancefish and Smelt and I thaw them so I can pop the swim bladders but the smely is oily.

I bulk out with earthworms from a bait shop, massivore, carnivore, hikari gold cichlid and then some sturgeon food which is less than quarter the price of massivore. The key is to keep trying the pellets mixed with their favourite foods, they take a while but the do take it when it is a new brand.

Shrimp = Frozen lil "prawn" with no legs, heads, or pinchers. They are individually frozen and packaged in 1 lb bags. We buy a bag stick it in the freezer and thaw prior to feeding.

Hey todd, hit me a link to the pellets u are talking about. I deff need to give them a try

We have it for $55 shipped to you.
