Species: Polypterus Ornatipinnis

How many: 13... 2 breeding pairs

How long trying: For 6months

Any successful spawns already: Only eggs so far.

Set up: 2x 720liters, one with the biggest pair alone. One with the other pair and 9 pther ornatipinnis. No other fishes, only sandsnails.

Any triggers/other information : They just do it! Doesn't care if the others are around. At one point when the two pairs were in the same tank, both pair were spawning and at one time they changed partners.

Species: Jack Dempseys, F0

How many: 1 pair

How long trying: Have had them 5 months, but never tried to induce breeding habits.

Any successful spawns already: Eggs layed 3/12/10 or 3/13/10, eggs have hatched and parents appear to be taking great care of them, they are still wigglers in the sand. 3/19/10

Set up: 120gallon 4'x2'x2' with 29gallon sump, only fish in tank.

Any triggers/other information : On 3/12/10 I took out the only other fish in the tank which was a pleco and did a huge water change and the next morning there were eggs.

Nice Devil. I have three myself. My female laid eggs last year a few times but I didn't have a male big enough for her not to kill. Now my male is a few inches bigger than her and I'm thinking about giving them my 90gl.. That means my Jag. 13"
would have to go...

i didnt do anything special to get them to spawn, to my knowledge they normally dont breed at the size there at, was unexpected

1 spawn but i didnt notice in time to save anything from the tankmates

in a 6ft 125 growout, with a canister and a ac110, and a air pump
added internal filter

I'm soon going to be working on breeding my firemouth cichlids, if indeed these two are actually a pair, due to their odd behavior, and usually being side by side I would not be suprised, (since the 3rd one is left out.) although I am a bit of a newbie in breeding cichlids.

I think breeding is one of the most important and rewarding parts of fishkeeping.
This is how the thread goes...
