good to know Vicious_Fish, predatory wasps are always welcome.

I'd guess Tabanus atratus kelly, hope it was dead, or you guys are braver than I.

"Tabanus Atratus" - is there a problem with a common name? lol. Thanks for the tip. I'll google it. And yeah, it was dead. The girl wanted to take it home with her. lol. Kid after my own heart. I bagged it and sent it along with her other stuff. Hope mom and dad like bugs! hahaha

EDIT: That's exactly it! Its a black horse fly. I wondered if it was a horse fly but it was so big...Wow! I couldn't even imagine that thing biting me! That must smart somethin fierce! lol

Thanks Gill Blue! I am amazed at how well some of you people know your bugs. Its officially on...I'm gonna stump you all one of these days! ;)

nice pics, everyone! I'll try to snap a pic of the wolf spider I've been seeing in my daughter's room, even though it's not very big. Thank God for spiders :)

I just killed a big Black Horse Fly like that yesterday when it tried to bite me while working outside. Good thing you can hear them buzzing before they land on you. Their bite hurts like hell if you don't!

here's a few of the same type of spider Dan F posted earlier. I thought it looked familiar.

I like the little jumping spiders that turn up from time to time on my porch. They remind me of tiny, nomadic tarantulas.

yup, they're cool looking. Mysterious has some good shots of one on the previous page. I've never gotten a good shot, they move too much and too fast.
