That is my 2nd favorite arachnid, the whip spider or tailless whip scorpion! They're harmless sweeties.

Now that you mention it...Yeah. Loud, irritating hum? I've never seen one, dead or alive. I was told that that sound was cicadas when I was a kid, but never saw any so assumed that was wrong. Guess not....

I believe some live all year round but there are some species that only come out every 10-20 years, at least that's what I was told. They hibernate and then come out to breed. We had some huge ones a year or so ago and they were all over the place, believe those were one of those type. Hum so loud you can't even hear your own thoughts.
