Here's some for you. The other fish in the tank picked it clean.

That's really cool. Do you have that on display as a warning to trouble makers?

A few pics of my dovii's teeth and a blury pic of one of my RBPs. I apologize for the calcium marks on the dovii pics ---- i do clean the glass on the tank once a week when i do a water change, but water does end up splashing when I feed the fish and the close up shots show the calcium marks well.:grinno:

He was measured at 13", march 26, 2008. I beleive him to be around 14" now, but I'll know for sure when I measure him again in a month or two. He is long and sleek and not deep bodied yet, although I have had him for almost 3 years. Actually I have seen pictures on the net of dovii with proportinately even larger teeth. Cichlids act quite different when they are kept in 'community' tanks rather then lone specimens -----when I do a water change, he goes into a his cave(s) along with his RT wife. The RBP are actually very scared of me and probably always will be ----- they hover close to the dovii and RT just outside of the cichlid's caves and often get in my way so I sometimes have to shoe them out of my way. Of course when the dovii get's older and larger his attitude may change towards me and I might have to be carefull.

IMO large or visible teeth are EXTREMELY overated on fish forums in terms of their usefulness for a fish in defending against other fish. My RBP -----however visible their teeth are,(wehter you can see them or not) absolutely no difference in their ability to chop off fin or lip. Dead smack on a cichlid body an RBP does very little ---- maybe it will snag a scale if the teeth are big but more then likely if they are slammed hard enough some teeth will break. A protrusion of bone (teeth)against a wall of bone (scales are armour as they are small plates of bone)---- the wall of bone always wins. Of course if the dovii takes a bite on fin it will shred fin very badly with it's large teeth. When my dovii was younger he split the 180 gal in half ( territories)with a large male Tilapia zilli ( at least double his weight). Eventually he defeated the T. zilli but broke all his teeth on the Tilapia .Very little visible damage on the big Tilapia. For 1 week the dovii lived quite well with the T. zilli as a subordinate .Left him alone. I know if it had been a rival male CA that he had been a rival with for over 1 year heprobably would have killed it after defeating it but because it was an African, I think he tolerated it. It seemed like it was going to work but then the crazy Tilapia went and re-challnged the dovii . With no visible teeth, my tank bottom was LITTERED with Tilapia scales.Lot's of visible damage on the Tilapia. The Tilapia ended up on the left wall of the tank and as soon as the Tilapia went to move, the dovii was there gilling him so i removed the Tilapia for good ( again I suspect a rival male CA would have been killed in that situation). Anyways, at high speed dishing out their worst ( or best?) , large teeth are pretty much useless---- they break. It's the lips which are made of bone that break through another fishes armour of scales.

Yup just a few scales missing on the Red Terror from the Dovii and a few dents in the face...............if it were my RBP there would be no face.
The Dovii been in the tank for only 2 hours.

My camera quit on me, or I'd show the one tooth that my Jaguar hasn't broken off yet.
I'd also show ya the scab on my arm from the bite he gave me last evening while I was trying to feed the convicts penned up in tank decorations. Normally he just slams in to me, last night he bit me. Still love him though, he could take a chunk out of me and I'd still love him.
