Java moss & Java fern will do just fine. You could also try Anubias or Cryptocoryne. Crazy try would be Echinodorus, I once had a specimen in a 10 gal tank with just an incandescent bulb. Didn't grow much, but didn't die, either.

it was pool filter sand (really cheap) and i just used tablets i got at petco, not home right now so i couldnt tell ya the brand.

Absolutely!
If you have anything other than Java fern/moss or Anubias, you should definitely add at least iron ferts! I inject mine straight into the watersystem.

Anubias? Honestly, from this angle and with some blurriness, it doesn't look a lot like Anubias .... looks more like a stem plant than one with a rhizome ...
