These are a couple of wild caught TX cichlids I caught at a friends ranch near Bracketville, TX. I've caught TX cichlids from LOTS of places but this creek has a little something different in it. Besides the colors, there are some HUGE ones in there. The one seen here in my tank is 13+ inches:

and this wild caught one one that was also in the tank that the above male destroyed in 1 week :(

I'm going back in the next two weeks for the sole purpose of finding him a nice female in the hopes he won't mangle her.

I know I can't keep up with some of you. Your fish are amazing, but I do have to say not bad for a first timer....

I'm hoping I replied back to this properly but what kinda of fish is the picture above? is this the Mayan Cichlid or the Festea?

I have a false RT which I'm trying to figure out what it will look like as he matures. here is the false RT as of about 8 months ago.

Top one is a festae I think, see how the spot on the tail fin is above the lateral line, whereas your mayan's spot encompasses the entire tail?

The female in the background is most definitely a festae.

I was afraid of that.. I think the best my fish will look is gonna be a washed out red color... He only has those when he's pissed off or attempting to spawn with my texas and JD.

These are my friends
